By the end of the war, over 50 million people are dead, 6 million of them Jews, including 1.5 million children. The Prophet Isaiah said, “They shall beat their spears into pruning hooks, and they shall not lift up swords against nations, neither shall they learn war anymore.” We, at the Lev Lalev Orphanage, understand that each person deserves security and happiness. Our founder, Rabbi Yekusiel Halberstam ob”m, Grand Rabbi of Sanz-Klauzenberg, lost a wife and 11 children in the Holocaust. After miraculously surviving the war, he built a new family, a new dynasty, and new institutions, including the Lev Lalev Orphanage, to give those in need a better chance and a brighter future. We reflect on the horrors of war and on the spirit of our founder. We pray that the world will never explode again.
