A Reflection for Three Weeks
A number of years ago, I had a meeting with “DC” of NYC who had generously sponsored an entire wedding for a Lev Lalev Israeli orphaned Bride. We spoke about the difficult path the girls travel until they are emotionally and psychologically ready to get married and start a family of their own. She astutely asked me what I thought was the recipe for success. I responded that it is faith in our girls and in Hashem, and the hard work of both those on the front line (homework helpers, social workers, dorm mother), and those behind the scenes who prepare the girls for a successful life. Then she added thoughtfully, “Its community-achdus- standing together”. Yes- the secret of the success of the Jewish people and our success at Lev LaLev is standing together, working together, and coming together. This is an important lesson to think about during the three weeks as we approach Tisha B’av.
